The phenomenon of mobile subscribers receiving strange calls continues to proliferate recently. In order to protect your subscription from unwanted troubles, VNPT recommends customers to be very careful when receiving any unusual calls or messages to avoid fraud
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) said they received many customer complaints about receiving calls from foreign numbers like Moldova (+373), Tunisia (+216), Equatorial Guinea (+240) and Burkina Faso (+226)… These are phone calls from foreign subscribers to VinaPhone subscribers, including those from OTT applications in order to entice customers to call back to generate unintended telecommunications charges.
VNPT urges its customers to be absolutely careful with all unusual calls and messages in order to avoid fraud. Customers need to be aware of calls and messages from international subscribers. Especially in the evening or at midnight and early morning when the customers are still asleep, they might believe that their overseas relatives call to Viet Nam for emergency cases.
Most calls last a few seconds. If customers call back to those strange numbers, the callers can only hear prearranged sounds, and afterwards their accounts will be deprived of large amount of money.
VNPT also warns users against calls from fake police, banks or postal service with the notification of gifts… saying that no demands must be met. Users need to disconnect and not call back, as well as not send money and personal information to strangers via the phone.
The Ministry of Information and Communications sent messages to phone subscribers warning about the issue: “The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) recommends that people watch out for strange calls and do not send any money or provide personal information to strangers over the phone. If faced with any of the aforementioned cases, it is vital to call the police or phone number 0692348560 of the Criminal Police Department to report the scams.
