VNPT awards 50 smartphones to poor and near-poor households in Long An

The People's Committee of Can Duoc district, Long An province has recently coordinated with VNPT to organize a preliminary conference to summarize digital transformation work in the first 6 months of 2024 and carry out directions and tasks for the last 6 months of 2024.

At the conference, VNPT awarded 50 smartphones to people using the VinaPhone mobile network in difficult circumstances in Can Duoc district with a total cost of 82.5 million VND. At the same time, VNPT’s staff also assisted people in installing SIM cards to activate their devices. This is a practical program to support people in converting their phones from 2G to 4G/5G, effectively carrying out digital transformation and contributing to the realization of the digital economy and digital society in the locality.

According to the policy of the Ministry of Information and Communications on bringing people to the digital environment, by the end of September 15, 2024, all network operators in Vietnam had officially turned off 2G waves. 2G phones (also known as old keypad phones) in use cannot connect to the network from September 16, 2024. Currently, there are about 900 people in Can Duoc district still using 2G phones.
