On September 12, 2024, in Hanoi, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) held a money-raising ceremony to support localities affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi) and announced a support package worth VND 50 billion to help overcome the consequences of Typhoon Yagi.
Faced with the huge damage that Typhoon Yagi caused to provinces from Quang Ninh and Hai Phong to a lot of the northern mountainous provinces, VNPT Group, which always has responsibility of a state-owned enterprise toward the community, has decided to provide a special support package for people and customers affected by the typhoon. This package has a total value of 50 billion VND, of which 25 billion VND is in kind (each VNPT employee contributes a day's salary and from VNPT's Social Policy Fund) and 25 billion VND is in the form of services which VNPT provides for people in flood areas.
With the spirit of speed, VNPT aims to implement this support package to the people within 10 days with the most practical forms of support to help local people quickly stabilize their lives.
As a key enterprise providing telecommunications and IT infrastructure, with a nationwide network infrastructure, VNPT is also one of the businesses that suffered heavy losses in the typhoon and floods. But in order to maintain communication for the people and serve authorities at all levels in their managing and directing during the Typhoon Yagi, VNPT has mobilized 100% of its human resources in areas affected by the storms, flash floods/landslides, and put them always on duty to respond and handle incidents.
During the most difficult moments of Typhoon Yagi, VNPT still basically ensured communication for the government and people. Thousands of VNPTers in other provinces/cities are being added to the affected areas to join hands in rescuing and quickly repairing the network to serve the people and the government.
In localities where the telecommunications network in general was severely damaged by the typhoon, VNPT has also shared the network with other telecommunications enterprises. Up to now, there have been nearly 550,000 other network mobile subscribers using the VinaPhone network to maintain contact. During peak hours, the VinaPhone network in storm and flood areas has simultaneously served nearly 300,000 other network mobile subscribers.
Hundreds of VNPT transaction points have helped customers charge their phones. These points have opened to provide services from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.
VNPT has also quickly deployed policies to support VinaPhone mobile packages and reduce fiber optic internet subscription fees to share difficulties with customers in 16 northern provinces/cities directly affected by Typhoon Yagi. Up to now, there have been more than 3.6 million VinaPhone subscribers benefiting from the fee support package (including 100 minutes of domestic calls & 15Gb Data) and nearly 600,000 fiber optic Internet subscribers benefiting from the support package.
With the spirit of "overcoming storms and floods", VNPT Group has mobilized as much as possible of all possible resources, contributing both resources, contributions, and the products and services that the Group is providing with the desire and belief that, with the solidarity of the whole country, people in storm and flood areas will soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
